Korean media: Samsung is in the final stages of its 64-bit mobile CPU, to be seen in its smartphones and tablets

According to a reports by a Korean media outlet, Samsung is into the close to completion of a 64-bit mobile processor intended for use in its own smartphones. The report further speculates that the chip will be first used in the company’s next flagship.
The chip will also be used for products beyond smartphones, such as tablets. It wouldn’t be at all surprising if Samsung were to use the 64-bit chip in its upcoming line-up of Chromebooks destined for 2014.
Shortly after the unveil of the iPhone 5s, Samsung stated that it’s working on a 64-bit CPU, which will find its place in 2014 flagshps. Right now, though, they are still in the sampling stage.
Smartphones are quick approaching the 4GB RAM barrier, at which point 64-bit CPUs become a necessity. Rumors are that Android 4.4 KitKat is slated to bring 64-bit support. There is also a probability Samsung unveils a flagship with 4GB of RAM next year, since the Note 3 already has 3GB.

Apple's A7 processor has been made by Samsung

While the fierce war between Samsung and Apple is no secret, they still seem to need each other in the mobile space. A new report says the powerful A7 chip in Apple’s latest iPhone 5S has been made by Samsung.

Having spent many hours slugging it out in courts over patent battles, Apple had decided to partner with other chip makers for future iPhone chipsets. But an inspection by Chipworks revealed that the A7, just like its predecessor is also built by Samsung. Earlier this year Apple was said to have inked a deal with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) to produce chips in lieu of Samsung. Some reports had indeed suggested that Apple would continue using a Samsung-made chip at least for the iPhone 5s, since the two companies only decided to part ways earlier this year.

is the A7 processor build by Samsung ?

Blogger John Gruber speculates that TSMC will eventually take over the production of the A7 chip as it is set to produce Apple chips in 2014. Reportedly, the M7 "motion coprocessor" that is found in the iPhone 5S as been built by NXP Semiconductors, which is a chip fab firm located in the Netherlands. TSMC-produced chips are expected to feature in next-year's models of the iPhone as well as iPads.

The iPhone 5S features an all-new A7 chip, and it's also the world’s first smartphone with 64-bit desktop-class architecture for highly improved performance. Core iOS 7 apps have been updated to take advantage of the improvement in the chipset.
